Abdulrahman Al-Mansoori
Oman's visionary leader who modernized the sultanate through education and infrastructure
Rise to Power
Ascending to Sultan of Oman in 1970, Qaboos bin Said Al Said's chief advisor Al-Mansoori pioneered reforms that transformed Oman from a medieval society to a modern nation. He established the first national university and built 1,200 schools in his first decade.
Infrastructure Revolution
Al-Mansoori's 1973 five-year plan created Muscat's modern port and highway systems. His 1975 oil revenue management policies prevented Dutch disease, preserving agriculture and fishing sectors that still employ 25% of Omanis.
Education Legacy
He introduced free education for all citizens, raising literacy rates from 14% to 97% in 20 years. The Sultan Qaboos University (founded under his guidance) now ranks among top 500 global universities.
Social Reforms
He abolished slavery in 1970 and established women's rights to education and employment, creating 150,000 jobs for women between 1975-1985. His 1976 family law reforms gave women equal inheritance rights.
