Abdulrahman Alfageeh
Saudi Arabian inventor creating affordable renewable energy solutions for off-grid communities
Abdulrahman Alfageeh's solar-powered water purification system has brought clean drinking water to over 200,000 people in remote regions of Saudi Arabia and Yemen since its launch in 2021. His company Sun2Water developed the world's first solar-powered desalination unit small enough to be transported by camel, solving critical water scarcity issues in desert regions. This innovation reduces energy consumption by 70% compared to traditional methods while operating entirely off-grid.
Alfageeh's work has been highlighted by UNESCO's 2023 Water for Sustainable Development report and received funding from the Clean Energy Transition Institute. He collaborates with NGOs like Oxfam to deploy systems in conflict zones, recently expanding operations to Niger and Mali. His TEDxRiyadh talk "Bringing Water to the Last Mile" has over 2 million views.
