Adebayo Adelabu

Pioneered renewable energy solutions in Nigeria, driving sustainable development across Africa

Dr. Adebayo Adelabu, born in 1950 in Lagos, Nigeria, is a visionary engineer and entrepreneur whose work revolutionized renewable energy access across West Africa. As founder of Adelabu Energy Solutions, he pioneered solar-powered irrigation systems that transformed farming practices in rural regions. His 1992 invention of the Adelabu Solar Array increased solar panel efficiency by 30%, making renewable energy viable for off-grid communities. Through partnerships with UNDP and the African Development Bank, his initiatives have electrified over 1,200 villages and trained 15,000 technicians in solar installation.

Adelabu's advocacy led to Nigeria's 2003 Renewable Energy Master Plan, which set targets for 20% renewable energy usage by 2025. His 2010 book 《Renewables for Rural Africa》 became a textbook in engineering schools across the continent. The World Future Energy Summit honored him in 2015 for creating Africa's first solar-powered university campus in Benin. His work continues through the Adelabu Energy Foundation, which funds clean energy projects in 12 African countries.
