Aditya Joshi
Indian solar innovator revolutionizing rural energy access through decentralized solutions
Aditya Joshi is a clean energy pioneer whose work has brought electricity to over 1.2 million people in rural India through his company Surya Energy Solutions. His patented 'Solar Microgrid in a Box' technology, launched in 2021, enables village-level energy grids at 30% lower cost than traditional systems. This innovation won the 2022 UN Climate Solutions Award and has been replicated in 8 countries across South Asia.
Joshi's approach combines solar energy with AI-driven energy management systems, creating self-sustaining grids that operate even in extreme weather conditions. His 2023 book 《Lighting the Last Mile》 details the technical and social challenges of rural electrification. In partnership with Oxfam India, he developed community-owned microgrids that provide 24/7 power while training local technicians, creating 15,000 jobs since 2020.
His recent project 'Solar for Schools' has electrified 500 rural schools, enabling digital education access. Joshi's work was featured in Nature Energy and recognized by Time Magazine's 2024 list of '100 Most Influential People'. His upcoming 'Off-Grid Energy Hub' initiative aims to provide 10 million people with clean energy by 2025 through blockchain-based energy trading systems.
