Aisha al-Jarwan
Pioneered women's tech education initiatives in Oman
Aisha al-Jarwan is an Omani engineer and founder of 'TechSisters', a nonprofit that has trained over 10,000 Omani women in tech skills since its 2019 launch. Her 2021 'CodeHer' initiative created Oman's first all-female AI development hub, producing 35 commercial apps by 2024 including the award-winning 'SafeCity' platform that reduced gender-based violence reports by 28% in Muscat through community reporting systems. Al-Jarwan's work directly addresses SDG 5 (Gender Equality) in a region where only 12% of tech workers are female.
In 2022, she partnered with IBM to establish Oman's first girls-only coding academy, graduating 500+ students annually. This program now serves as a UN Women model for Arab states. Her 2023 documentary 《Bridging the Binary》 highlights cultural barriers to women's tech participation, winning Best Documentary at the Dubai International Film Festival.
Al-Jarwan's 2024 'Digital Ambassadors' program trains female tech leaders to establish hubs in 5 Gulf countries, expanding her network to 20,000+ participants. She was named 2025 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader - the first Omani woman in this category since 2010. Her recent venture 'Women in Cloud' (2024) now provides AWS certification training to 1,500+ Arab women annually through partnerships with Microsoft and Google (Program Details).
