Amina Mohamed
Pioneering Egyptian educator empowering rural women through digital literacy
Amina Mohamed (b. 1985) is a visionary educator from Upper Egypt who founded Digital Horizons, a nonprofit organization providing technology education to rural women. Starting with a single classroom in Luxor in 2012, her program has expanded to 42 locations across Egypt, teaching over 15,000 women digital skills including coding, social media marketing, and e-commerce management. Her TEDx talk on 'Empowering Women Through Tech' has been viewed over 2 million times.
Key initiatives include the Egyptian Women's Tech Hub, a co-working space with 3D printers and VR labs, and the Mada'in Sisters app connecting rural artisans to global markets. In 2021, she partnered with UNESCO to launch the Digital Literacy for All initiative now operating in 12 African countries.
