Amina Saidy Jallow
Gambian tech activist bridging digital gender divide in West Africa
After surviving FGM at 12, Jallow (b. 1995) founded TechGirls Gambia in 2016 to teach coding and robotics to 15,000+ girls. Her #NoCodeNoVoice campaign pressured telecom companies to provide free STEM e-learning during COVID lockdowns.
Notable achievements:
2019 | Launched West Africa's first girls-only AI lab |
2022 | Partnered with SpaceX for rural Starlink stations |
Jallow's "Digital Sisterhood" model has been replicated in Sierra Leone and Mali. She continues advocating for internet access as a human right while challenging patriarchal tech norms through her viral TEDx talks on decolonizing technology.
