Amira al-Zadjali
Omani sustainability pioneer transforming Arabian tourism
Amira al-Zadjali is an Omani entrepreneur and founder of Saltwater Travel, a sustainable tourism company promoting Oman's cultural heritage and marine conservation. Established in 2010, her company pioneered eco-tourism in the Arabian Peninsula, focusing on coral reef preservation and Bedouin cultural experiences. Al-Zadjali's initiatives led to the creation of Oman's first marine protected area in the Musandam Peninsula. She co-founded Arabian Conservation Society in 2015, training local communities in eco-tourism management. Her work has been showcased in National Geographic's "Hidden Journeys" series. Al-Zadjali also advises UNESCO on cultural preservation in the Gulf region, and her TEDx talk "Why the Arabian Peninsula Needs Sustainable Tourism" has over 500,000 views. In 2020, she launched Green Arabia Initiative, aiming to plant 10 million trees across the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
