Amira Eldoma

Sudanese architect rebuilding communities through disaster-resistant housing

Amira Eldoma (b.1979) is a Sudanese architect whose post-conflict reconstruction work has redefined sustainable urban planning in war-torn regions. Her Housing for Peace Initiative developed earthquake-resistant building techniques using locally sourced materials, reducing reconstruction costs by 60%. Between 2015-2019, her team rebuilt 1,200 homes in Darfur using her patented Earthcrete composite material, which also sequesters carbon. Eldoma's 2018 study in Construction and Building Materials demonstrated 300% stronger structural performance compared to traditional methods. She pioneered community workshops where residents co-design their neighborhoods, resulting in 98% occupancy rates in her projects. Eldoma's TED Talk "Bricks of Reconciliation" (2017) influenced UN Habitat's 2020 guidelines for post-conflict cities. Her 2019 book 《Building Peace from the Ground Up》 became a required text in 40+ architecture schools. The African Union awarded her the Pan-African Innovation Prize in 2019 for reducing displacement crises through resilient infrastructure.
