Sudanese tech innovator creating solar solutions for off-grid communities

Anas Sulaiman (b. 1985) revolutionized renewable energy access in Sudan through his company SolarHub. Starting with a university project in 2003, he developed portable solar kits that now power over 500,000 homes in rural Sudan. His Smart Solar Grid system (2018) won the African Energy Prize, enabling decentralized energy networks resistant to political instability. Sulaiman's partnership with UNICEF created solar-powered schools in Darfur, improving literacy rates by 40%. His TEDx talk "Lighting Up Sudan's Future" inspired similar initiatives across East Africa. The SolarHub Foundation he established provides free technical training to young engineers, having graduated over 2,000 technicians since 2015.
