Anshul Arora
Indian social entrepreneur building climate-positive education systems
Anshul Arora is the founder of EcoMatcher, a platform connecting students with environmental projects since 2020. This Mumbai-based innovator created a model where academic institutions fund environmental initiatives through student fees, redirecting 1% of tuition fees to verified projects like mangrove restoration and clean energy access. The model has been adopted by 150 universities across India and 30 international institutions, channeling over $12 million to grassroots environmental efforts by 2023.
In 2022, Arora launched the Green Tuition Initiative, providing free education to underprivileged students in exchange for their participation in ecological conservation projects. This program has educated 5,000+ students while planting 250,000 trees. His 2024 book Planting Knowledge: Growing the Future Through Environmental Education details this revolutionary approach. Arora's work was recognized with the 2023 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, where his presentation highlighted how education systems can become climate action engines.
