Bridget Ezegwui
Pioneer of women's tech education in Nigeria through TechHive Academy
Bridget Ezegwui is a Nigerian tech entrepreneur and social innovator who has made significant contributions to bridging the gender gap in technology through her organization TechHive Academy. Founded in 2021, this initiative provides free coding bootcamps and digital literacy programs for young women across West Africa. Over 5,000 women have graduated from her programs, with 70% securing tech-related jobs within six months of completion.
Ezegwui's approach combines technical training with mentorship from Silicon Valley professionals through partnerships with Google Developers and Andela. Her TechHive Academy operates in Lagos, Accra and Abidjan, using solar-powered classrooms in areas without stable electricity. This model has inspired similar programs in Kenya and Ethiopia.
In 2023 she launched Africa's first women-only tech incubator, securing $2.3M in seed funding from impact investors. Her TEDx talk 'Code as Liberation' has over 2M views and influenced Nigeria's 2024 National Digital Economy Policy to include gender equity provisions.
