Bridget Ojinmah
A Nigerian social entrepreneur who revolutionized education access in rural Africa through innovative mobile libraries.
Bridget Ojinmah (born 1975) is a Nigerian social entrepreneur and founder of Gidi Educational Foundation, an organization that has transformed education access across West Africa. Growing up in a rural village without formal schooling infrastructure, Ojinmah recognized early the transformative power of education. She pioneered the concept of mobile libraries mounted on bicycles and motorcycles, delivering books and learning materials to over 150,000 children in underserved communities. This initiative, launched in 1998, became the blueprint for similar programs in Ghana, Cameroon, and Senegal.
Her 2003 innovation of integrating solar-powered tablets with offline educational apps allowed students to access global learning resources despite limited internet connectivity. Ojinmah's work was featured in BBC Africa's 2018 report on grassroots education solutions. In 2010, she established the first girls' coding academy in Nigeria's Delta region, training 3,000+ young women in tech skills. Her advocacy led to Nigeria's 2015 policy mandating mobile learning centers in all federal schools.
Key partnerships include collaborations with UNICEF for curriculum development and the African Development Bank for infrastructure funding. Ojinmah's TEDx talk 'Education Wheels' (2017) has over 2 million views. She remains a vocal advocate for inclusive education, recently launching a blockchain-based scholarship platform for displaced children in 2022.
