Nigerian tech entrepreneur empowering women in STEM through digital literacy initiatives
Bridget Renaud is a Nigerian social entrepreneur and founder of African Women in Technology, an organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in Africa's tech sector. Since launching in 2017, her platform has trained over 15,000 women across 20+ countries in digital skills, coding, and entrepreneurship. Her World Economic Forum article highlights how her work addresses critical challenges like internet connectivity and cultural barriers facing African women in tech.
In 2023, she pioneered the Africa Code Challenge, a continent-wide competition that connected 3,000+ students with tech mentors. Her partnership with UN Women in 2021 created the first Pan-African digital literacy curriculum now used in 45 universities. Bridget's advocacy led to Nigeria's 2022 National Digital Economy Policy including explicit provisions for women's tech inclusion.
Her TEDx talk 'Building Africa's Future with Women in Tech' has over 2 million views, and she advises governments in Kenya and Ghana on digital transformation strategies. In 2024, she launched the Africa Tech Girl Awards recognizing 100 young innovators annually.
