Chilean climate scientist leading youth-driven environmental policies in Latin America

Dr. Camila Zegers is a climate scientist and founder of Clima Chile, a youth-led organization that transformed Chile's environmental governance. After earning her PhD at Stanford in 2018, she returned to Chile to:

  • Pioneer the Climate Law passed in 2021 requiring net-zero emissions by 2050
  • Establish the first 'Youth Climate Council' in Latin America (2020)
  • Develop AI-driven emissions monitoring systems used in 8 South American countries

Zegers' TEDx talk 'Youth-Led Climate Action' inspired 200+ student movements across the continent. She advises the UN's SDG13 committee and co-authored the Latin America Climate Vulnerability Index (2023). Her podcast 'Green Voices' features interviews with activists like Greta Thunberg and Antonio Marcondes.
