Carmen Posadas

Uruguayan poet who established underground literature networks during military dictatorship

Using codenames La Araña, Carmen Posadas orchestrated a clandestine poetry movement from 1976-1985. Her 'Bread Recipes' – poems disguised as cooking instructions – became resistance symbols. Developed ink from wild berries and distributed works via milk carton barcodes.

Founded the Invisible Press network using abandoned buses as mobile libraries. Later created typography systems embedding protest messages in commercial advertisements. Her 1984 Dictionary of Missing Words secretly documented state censorship mechanisms.

Post-dictatorship, Posadas pioneered interactive poetry installations using surveillance camera feeds. Established South America's first digital poetry archive in 2001. Currently developing AI that generates protest literature from security agency documents.
