Deogratias Bizimana

Rwandan educator and peacebuilder who rebuilt communities after the 1994 genocide

Biography

Deogratias Bizimana (b. 1965) emerged as a leader during Rwanda's post-genocide reconstruction. As a survivor of the 1994 genocide, he co-founded the Mukandwe Foundation to promote reconciliation through education. He pioneered the 'Children of Hope' program providing schooling and trauma counseling to over 10,000 genocide-affected children. His community radio project Radio Isanganiro broadcasts peace messages in rural areas.

Global Recognition
