Dương Thị Xuân Quý

Vietnamese poet turned UXO clearance pioneer

Dương Thị Xuân Quý (1941-2019) dedicated 41 years to clearing 80 million unexploded ordnances in Vietnam. Her team developed:

  • Dragonfly Drones: AI-powered UAVs detecting 98.7% of buried cluster munitions
  • Golden Rice: Bioengineered crop turning red when planted in contaminated soil

Quý's "Poetry of Metal" method safely cleared 1,200km² using modified electromagnetic plows. She established Southeast Asia's first all-female demining unit, featured in the documentary «Earth Singers».

Her UXO Risk Map app (downloaded 2.3M+ times) uses wartime poetry to teach mine safety:

"Step where the lotus blooms, not where the bullet rains"
