Eduardo Goldenberg

A Peruvian environmentalist leading conservation efforts to protect the Amazon rainforest through community-based initiatives and legal advocacy.

Eduardo Goldenberg (b. 1973) is a Peruvian environmental lawyer and founder of the Amazon Guardians Network, an organization that has safeguarded over 10 million hectares of rainforest since 2001. Growing up near the Amazon basin, Goldenberg witnessed firsthand the impacts of illegal logging and mining. He pioneered a legal framework allowing indigenous communities to obtain land titles, which has been replicated across South America. His 2005 campaign successfully pressured the Peruvian government to ban mercury use in gold mining, reducing toxic pollution in key river systems. Goldenberg's work combines grassroots activism with international diplomacy—he brokered a landmark agreement between Brazil, Peru, and Colombia to create a transboundary conservation corridor. His memoir 《Guardians of the Green Lungs》 details his strategies for sustainable development. Today, he trains young leaders through the Amazon Leadership Academy, ensuring future generations can continue this vital work.
