Eugenia de Almeida
A 19th-century Brazilian educator who pioneered women's access to higher education in Latin America.
Eugenia de Almeida (1845–1927) was a Brazilian educator and suffragist who broke gender barriers in education. Born in Rio de Janeiro, she founded the Escola Normal de Meninas (Girls' Normal School) in 1873, the first institution in Brazil to train female teachers. Her advocacy led to the inclusion of women in university studies, culminating in the 1881 law allowing women to attend the Imperial Academy of Law.
