Eunice Kirwa

Kenyan STEM advocate and founder of Girls in ICT Kenya, empowering girls through technology education

Eunice Kirwa is a visionary educator and entrepreneur from Kenya who has made significant contributions to bridging the gender gap in technology sectors. Since 2020, she has been at the forefront of initiatives promoting girls' participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through her organization Girls in ICT Kenya. This non-profit focuses on providing mentorship, coding workshops, and digital literacy programs to over 5,000 girls annually across 15 counties in Kenya.

Her most impactful project, the 'Code for Change' initiative launched in 2022, challenges students to develop tech solutions addressing community issues like healthcare access and environmental conservation. One notable outcome was an app developed by Nairobi high school students that monitors water quality in rural areas, now used by 200+ villages.

Kirwa's advocacy extends globally through partnerships with UNESCO and the World Bank. In 2023, she spearheaded the East Africa Girls in Tech Knowledge Hub, a digital platform offering free courses in AI, cybersecurity, and robotics. This resource has reached 30,000+ learners in 14 African countries.

Her work has been recognized internationally: in 2024 she received the AfricaCom Women in Tech Award and was featured in Forbes Africa's '30 Under 30' list. Eunice continues to challenge stereotypes through her podcast STEM Stories, sharing narratives of African women in tech. Recent projects include a collaboration with Kenya's Ministry of Education to integrate coding into national curriculum starting 2025.
