Fatima Aberkane
Moroccan tech entrepreneur revolutionizing women's education through digital platforms
Fatima Aberkane (b. 1992) is a Moroccan innovator whose startup Soraya Education has empowered over 50,000 North African women through accessible STEM education since 2021. As CEO of this AI-driven learning platform, she developed an Arabic-language curriculum addressing regional gender gaps in tech fields. Her work was recognized by UNESCO's 2023 Digital Inclusion Award and featured in Wired Magazine.
Aberkane's approach combines gamified learning modules with mentorship networks connecting students to industry professionals. The platform's success in Tunisia and Algeria led to partnerships with MIT Open Learning and Google's Digital Skills for Africa initiative. Her 2022 TEDx talk 'Code Breaking Barriers' has garnered 2.3 million views, inspiring similar projects across West Africa.
In 2024, she launched the Tech4Girls Accelerator, providing seed funding and incubation support to female founders. This initiative has produced 87 startups addressing local challenges like healthcare logistics and agricultural efficiency. Her advocacy for digital literacy in refugee camps earned her a 2025 nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
