Fatima Al-Fatlawi
Iraqi tech entrepreneur pioneering renewable energy solutions in conflict zones
Fatima Al-Fatlawi is an Iraqi engineer and entrepreneur whose innovative work in renewable energy deployment has transformed access to electricity in war-torn regions. After surviving the 2014 ISIS siege of Mosul, she founded Solar Energy for All, a nonprofit deploying solar microgrids in 15 conflict zones across the Middle East. Her modular solar systems have provided electricity to over 200,000 displaced families while avoiding 30,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. In 2022 she developed the world's first solar-powered mobile hospital unit, now used in Syria and Yemen. Her TED Talk 'Energy in Our Hands' has garnered 2.1 million views. Al-Fatlawi's work bridges humanitarian aid and climate action through her patented Disaster-Ready Solar Array technology, featured in Nature Energy journal (2023). She recently partnered with UNHCR to scale her systems across African refugee camps.
