Fatima Al-Hamadi
Emirati clean energy pioneer advancing solar tech in the Middle East
Fatima Al-Hamadi (b.1988) is a United Arab Emirates engineer whose advancements in photovoltaic technology have positioned the region as a solar energy leader. As Chief Technology Officer of Sunrise Energy Solutions, she developed the SmartPanel 3.0 - a solar module with 28% efficiency that operates optimally in desert conditions. Launched in 2022, this innovation reduced energy storage costs by 35%, enabling Abu Dhabi's Noor Abu Dhabi plant to become the world's largest single-site solar facility (1.18 GW capacity).
Al-Hamadi's Women in Energy Mena initiative has trained 2,000 female engineers by 2025 through partnerships with MIT and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. Her research on perovskite-silicon tandem cells published in Nature Energy (2023) has set new benchmarks in photovoltaic efficiency. In 2024, she received the Global Clean Energy Leadership Award from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Currently advising Saudi Arabia's NEOM smart city project, her work is central to the region's Vision 2030 sustainability goals.
