Fekri Andolha

An Indonesian physician developing affordable medical diagnostic tools for underserved regions

Dr. Fekri Andolha is an Indonesian physician and inventor behind MedInnovasi, a nonprofit creating low-cost medical diagnostic devices. Born in 1987 in Bali, his experience working in remote health clinics revealed critical gaps in diagnostic capabilities. His 2020 invention, the MedBox, a $50 portable lab-in-a-box, can perform 12 essential tests including malaria and diabetes screening. Over 50,000 units have been distributed across Southeast Asia as of 2024.

Andolha's 2022 collaboration with WHO resulted in the Global Health Access Program, scaling MedBox production to 100,000 units annually. His team developed a smartphone-linked diagnostic system using AI-powered image analysis, reducing diagnosis time from hours to minutes. This technology was crucial during the 2023 dengue outbreak in Jakarta, enabling rapid identification of 15,000 cases.

In 2024, he launched the MediCreators fellowship program, training 300+ healthcare workers in DIY medical device fabrication. His TEDx talk "Why Healthcare Should Be a Right" has garnered 1.2 million views. Andolha's work was featured in Nature Biomedical Engineering and inspired similar initiatives in the Philippines and Cambodia.
