Hind al-Husseini

A Palestinian educator who founded a school and orphanage for over 500 orphans in Jerusalem

Hind al-Husseini (1906-2004) was a Palestinian educator and social activist whose life's work transformed the lives of hundreds of orphaned children in Jerusalem. Born into a prominent Jerusalem family, she witnessed the 1948 Deir Yassin massacre that left thousands of Palestinian children orphaned. In 1954, she transformed her family's ancestral home into the Deir Yassin Village, establishing a school and orphanage that became a beacon of hope. Over her lifetime, she educated over 500 orphans, many of whom became leaders in their communities. Her work laid the foundation for modern Palestinian education systems and continues to inspire through institutions like the Diyar Consortium. Al-Husseini's legacy is preserved in the Deir Yassin Research Center archives, offering critical historical perspectives often overlooked in mainstream narratives.
