Jorge Peña

Colombian education innovator bridging Latin America's digital divide

Jorge Peña is the founder of Aprende.Lat, a Bogotá-based edtech platform that has transformed education access across 18 Latin American countries since 2020. His open-source AprendeX Framework provides free STEM education materials in 10 languages, reaching 3.2 million students annually through partnerships with 8,500+ schools.

Peña's 2022 initiative United Devices collects and refurbishes 50,000+ used smartphones annually, distributing them with pre-loaded educational apps to underserved communities. This program directly impacted 150,000 students during the pandemic when UNESCO reported 70% of Latin American schools lacked digital infrastructure.

His 2023 collaboration with MIT produced the first AI-powered language translator for indigenous students, currently supporting 140+ native languages. Peña's TEDx talk "The Future of Education is in Our Hands" (2024) has become required viewing at global edtech conferences. His upcoming book 《Bridging the Divide》 details strategies for equitable education scaling.
