Colombian educator creating mobile schools for displaced communities

Juan Montoya is a Colombian social entrepreneur transforming education access in conflict zones through his Mobile School Initiative. Starting in 2020, he developed solar-powered mobile classrooms on modified trucks that travel to internally displaced communities in regions affected by Colombia's 50-year armed conflict. These units provide primary education, healthcare screenings, and psychosocial support to over 2,000 children annually.

Montoya's model uses AI-driven learning platforms tailored for multilingual students (Spanish, Wayuu, and Nasa Yuwe). His partnership with UNICEF expanded the program to Venezuela's border regions in 2023. The initiative's 2024 impact report showed 85% improvement in literacy rates among participating children.

His 'Education on Wheels' concept inspired similar programs in Guatemala and Honduras. Montoya was featured in the World Economic Forum's 2024 Global Innovators list and recently secured $1.2M in crowdfunding through his NFT education token project.
