Khalida Brohi
Pakistani activist combating honor killings and empowering women through education and entrepreneurship.
Khalida Brohi, born in 1990 in Balochistan, Pakistan, founded the Sui Sangi Foundation at age 16 to challenge honor killings and gender-based violence. Her activism began after her cousin was murdered in an honor killing, sparking her lifelong fight against tribal customs that oppress women.
Brohi launched the Chai Project, teaching embroidery skills to rural women, enabling them to earn incomes and gain social independence. Her TED Talk, 'How I Work to Protect Women from Honor Killings', has garnered over 1.5 million views, amplifying global awareness.
In 2014, she co-founded The Gender Fund, a platform funding grassroots gender equality initiatives across South Asia. Despite death threats, Brohi continues advocating for legal reforms, notably influencing Pakistan's 2016 anti-honor-killing law.
