Laura Núñez (1855–1927) was a trailblazer in Argentine medicine, becoming the first woman to earn a medical degree in her country in 1889. She overcame societal barriers by studying secretly at the University of Buenos Aires, eventually graduating with top honors. Núñez advocated for women’s access to medical education and founded the Argentine Association of Women Graduates to support female professionals. Her work in obstetrics and public health improved maternal care and sanitation practices.
