Lina Al-Khateeb

Syrian biomedical engineer developing affordable healthcare solutions for conflict zones

Lina Al-Khateeb's Mission

Dr. Lina Al-Khateeb, a Syrian-American biomedical engineer, has pioneered low-cost medical devices for war-torn regions since 2019. Her company AidInnovate produces solar-powered diagnostic kits and prosthetics that cost 90% less than conventional alternatives. These innovations were deployed in Syria, Yemen, and Gaza, saving over 15,000 lives by 2024.

Breakthrough Innovations

In 2022, Al-Khateeb developed the FieldScope portable ultrasound device, recognized by MIT's Innovation Fund. Her 3D-printed Modular Prosthetics system, launched in 2023, allows field hospitals to create custom limbs in 2 hours. This technology was used during the 2024 Gaza conflict to treat over 800 amputees.

Global Impact

Al-Khateeb's 2021 initiative MedPack4Conflict established 50 mobile clinics in high-risk zones. Partnering with ICRC, she created a drone delivery network for medical supplies in mountainous regions. Her TEDx talk "Engineering for Humanity" (2023) has over 1.5 million views.

Awards & Recognition

Recipient of the Global Health Pioneer Award (2023) and featured in TIME's 100 Most Influential (2024), Al-Khateeb advises WHO's Conflict Health Initiative. Her latest project, the Portable Emergency Hospital Kit, is being tested in earthquake zones across Pakistan and Turkey.
