Lina María Munguía (b. 1978) is a Colombian environmental lawyer and community organizer who has dedicated her career to protecting the Amazon rainforest and the rights of indigenous communities. As director of the Fundación Ambiente y Paz, she has spearheaded initiatives that combine legal advocacy with on-the-ground conservation efforts. Her work focuses on stopping illegal mining, deforestation, and oil exploration in critical ecological zones.

Munguía's approach emphasizes community empowerment: she trains local leaders to use satellite mapping and legal tools to document environmental crimes. Her 2015 campaign against illegal gold mining in the Caquetá region led to the recovery of 12,000 hectares of degraded land. She also pioneered Colombia's first "bio-rights" legal framework, allowing ecosystems to be granted legal personhood for protection purposes.

Her transnational collaboration with the Amazonian Indigenous Council (COICA) has created a network of 150+ community monitoring stations. This system uses drones and AI-powered image analysis to track deforestation in real time, sharing data with global platforms like Global Forest Watch. Munguía's work has been instrumental in securing UNESCO World Heritage status for the Colombian Amazon.

Despite death threats from paramilitary groups, she continues to advocate for victims of environmental violence. Her landmark 2020 lawsuit against the Colombian government for failing to protect the Amazon set a precedent in climate litigation. Munguía's TED Talk "The Amazon's fight for survival" has become a key resource for environmental activists worldwide.

She co-authored the Amazonian Indigenous Rights Charter (2021), which has been adopted by 12 South American nations. Her leadership was recognized with the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2022, often called the "Green Nobel Prize."
