Madhu Babu

Indian social entrepreneur who revolutionized rural healthcare through mobile clinics

Madhu Babu (b. 1978) transformed healthcare access in India's remote regions through his Health on Wheels initiative launched in 2001. His fleet of 150+ customized trucks provide comprehensive medical services including diagnostics, dental care, and telemedicine consultations. Babu's model incorporates local health workers trained through his Health Academy, creating 3,000+ community health workers by 2023. Notably, his "Mobile Maternity Units" reduced maternal mortality rates by 40% in Bihar state. Featured in TIME's 2018 Heroes of Health, Babu's work inspired similar programs in Nepal and Bangladesh. His 2022 book 《Health on Wheels: A Revolution in Rural Care》 details his approach to scalable healthcare solutions. The WHO now uses his training model in 12 developing countries.
