Marisol San Martin

Peruvian engineer empowering indigenous communities through digital inclusion

Marisol San Martin (b. 1990) is a Quechua engineer and founder of Kawsay Tech, a nonprofit deploying solar-powered digital hubs in remote Andean villages. Her initiative provides free access to educational apps, telemedicine, and market data in Quechua language interfaces. By 2024, Kawsay Tech had established 85 centers across Peru, reaching 40,000+ users. A 2021 MIT Solve Fellow, Marisol advocates for culturally appropriate tech solutions through her TEDx series. She co-authored 《Bridging the Digital Divide in the Andes》, which influenced Peru's 2023 national broadband policy. The 2023 film 《The Signal in the Clouds》 documents her team's challenges in high-altitude regions, earning an Emmy nomination. Her work intersects indigenous rights, gender equality (90% of staff are women), and climate adaptation, as seen in her UNFCCC case study.
