Moses Kizza Musaazi
Pioneer of eco-friendly waste management and social entrepreneurship in Uganda
Moses Kizza Musaazi (born 1950) is a Ugandan environmentalist and entrepreneur who revolutionized waste management through his innovative approach to recycling and community empowerment. In the early 1990s, he founded Uganda Waste Management Ltd, a company that transformed discarded materials into valuable products like bricks, furniture, and construction materials. His work not only addressed the growing waste crisis in Kampala but also provided employment opportunities for marginalized communities, particularly women and youth. Musaazi’s philosophy of 'zero waste' inspired global recognition, including a UNDP award in 2002. His initiatives, such as the Green Earth Foundation, continue to promote sustainable practices across East Africa. By blending environmental stewardship with economic development, Musaazi has made a lasting difference in urban sustainability and poverty alleviation.
