Muna Luqman
Somali-Danish journalist exposing human trafficking in Nordic countries
Muna Luqman is a groundbreaking journalist and founder of Voices of Victims, an NGO documenting human trafficking networks in Scandinavia. Born in 1990 in Mogadishu to a Somali father and Danish mother, Luqman's investigations have exposed systemic vulnerabilities in Nordic migration policies. Her 2021 report "The Invisible Chains" revealed how gangs exploit asylum seekers in Oslo, leading to revised border control protocols across the region.
Luqman pioneered using encrypted communication channels to protect sources, a method now adopted by European investigative networks. Her documentary series for DR1 television exposed forced labor in Danish fishing industries, resulting in 47 criminal convictions. As a UN Goodwill Ambassador, she advocates for survivor-centered approaches in anti-trafficking policies through her Survivor Voices initiative. Her testimony before the European Parliament in 2022 influenced new directives requiring corporate transparency in supply chains. Luqman's work has been profiled in Foreign Policy magazine and earned her the 2023 Reporters Without Borders Award for Courageous Journalism.
