Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah

A Ghanaian feminist activist and founder of 'Sistahoods,' promoting African women’s sexual health and rights.

Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah is a Ghanaian-German feminist writer and activist, best known for co-founding Sistahoods, an initiative addressing African women’s sexual health through storytelling. Born in 1985, she grew up in Ghana and Germany, later becoming an advocate for intersectional feminism. Sistahoods collects narratives from African women to challenge stigma around topics like menstruation and HIV/AIDS, published in the anthology 《Sistahoods: African Women’s Sexual Health Narratives》. Nana’s work intersects with global health equity, advocating for reproductive justice in post-colonial contexts. She has collaborated with organizations like FemLINKPACIFIC and participated in UN forums. Her 2018 TEDx talk, “Reclaiming Our Bodies”, highlights her efforts to decolonize health discourse. Nana also co-founded CultureDrop, a platform using art to educate youth on sexual rights. By 2019, her campaigns influenced Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme to include menstrual health services.
