Nisreen Khoury
Jordanian social entrepreneur transforming education access through mobile learning platforms in conflict zones
Nisreen Khoury is the founder of EduJourney, a Jordan-based NGO that delivers education via mobile classrooms to displaced populations since 2019. Her Smart Cart Initiative has provided over 50,000 children in Syria and Iraq with tablet-based learning since 2022. The carts feature offline-capable apps developed in collaboration with MIT's Learning Initiative.
In 2023, Khoury launched the Teacher Training Pipeline, certifying 1,200+ educators in trauma-informed pedagogy. Her partnership with UNHCR created the first Arabic-language crisis education curriculum, used in 150 refugee camps. Khoury's Educate to Rebuild manifesto (2024) proposes new frameworks for post-conflict education systems.
Her 2025 innovation, Solar Learning Pods, powers education centers in off-grid regions using hybrid solar/diesel systems. Featured in TIME's 'Heroes of the Year' list (2023), Khoury also advises the World Bank on EdTech investments in MENA. Recent projects include a VR platform for history education in Palestinian schools, developed with Oculus for Good.
