Nisreen Salti
Jordanian environmentalist leading Middle East's renewable energy transition
Founder of GreenLife Jordan
Nisreen Salti is transforming energy systems across the Middle East through her work with GreenLife Jordan. Established in 2018, her company has installed over 50MW of solar capacity in Jordan, powering 20,000 homes annually. In 2022 she pioneered the region's first community solar cooperative model, allowing rural households to collectively invest in rooftop installations. Her team's IRENA-certified training programs have certified 1,200 technicians in solar installation since 2020.
Policy Impact
Nisreen's advocacy led to Jordan's 2023 Renewable Energy Law which mandates 30% renewables by 2030. She co-authored the World Bank's Jordan Energy Transition Report and advises UAE's Masdar Institute. Her initiative Solar Women has trained 800 female engineers, addressing gender gaps in the region's energy sector. Recent projects include floating solar farms on the Dead Sea and partnerships with IKEA Foundation for refugee camp electrification.
Global Recognition
Recipient of the 2024 UNEP Champions of the Earth award, Nisreen was featured in Time's 2023 list of 100 most influential people. Her TEDxAmman talk 'Sunshine Economy' has become a blueprint for regional development strategies. Current focus includes hydrogen production facilities using solar energy and carbon capture systems for cement factories.
