Zimbabwean tech entrepreneur bridging Africa's digital divide through women-led tech education
Nontsikelelo Mutiti is a Zimbabwean social entrepreneur whose Tuse Initiative has empowered 250,000+ African women in technology since 2021. Her pioneering 'Code for Change' program provides free coding education via solar-powered mobile classrooms, reaching remote villages disconnected from traditional education systems. In 2023, her team launched Africa's first AI literacy curriculum tailored for rural communities, taught in local languages like Shona and Zulu.
Mutiti's 2022 partnership with Google.org established the $2.1M Africa Tech Futures Fund, funding women-led tech startups addressing food security and healthcare challenges. Her Harvard Business Review article "Rethinking Tech Education in Africa" inspired similar programs across 12 countries.
In 2024, she co-created the Pan-African Women in Tech Network, connecting 3,000+ professionals across 34 countries.
