Prerna Bindra
Indian conservationist transforming wildlife protection through community empowerment
Prerna Bindra redefined wildlife conservation in India through her organization Wildlife First, established in 2021. Her Community Ranger Program trains local villagers as frontline conservationists, resulting in a 70% drop in poaching incidents in Rajasthan's Thar Desert region. Over 300 former poachers have been retrained as eco-tour guides and habitat guardians.
In 2023, she launched WildLens, an AI-powered monitoring system that uses thermal drones to track endangered species. This technology helped relocate 150 critically endangered Great Indian Bustards to safer habitats. Her 2024 initiative Forest Schools integrates environmental education into rural curricula, reaching 10,000 children annually.
Prerna's 2022 documentary "Voices of the Wild" (available on Netflix) brought global attention to India's biodiversity challenges. She advises the Indian government's National Wildlife Action Plan 2030, emphasizing community-led conservation models. Recently appointed UNDP Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity, her work bridges ecological preservation with socio-economic development.
