Princess Rym Ali

Jordanian environmental pioneer who established the Middle East's first solar energy initiative for rural communities

Princess Rym Ali (b. 1972) pioneered renewable energy access in Jordan through her 1998 founding of Green Horizons Initiative. This project installed solar power systems in 85% of Jordan's rural schools by 2005, providing 200,000 students with modern lighting. Her 2000 UNESCO partnership expanded solar programs to Morocco and Tunisia. The princess' 2003 《Sunlight Solutions》 outlined her vision for desert solar grids, influencing the 2006 Desertec Initiative. Her 2002 partnership with World Economic Forum secured $150M for North African solar projects. By 2010, her initiatives had reduced Jordan's CO2 emissions by 12% while creating 3,000 green jobs. The princess' work inspired similar programs across the Arabian Peninsula.
