Rafiqul Islam

Bangladeshi environmental activist who created Nobel Tree Campaign

Known as 'Tree Man of Bangladesh', Rafiqul Islam (1955-2021) initiated the Nobel Tree Campaign planting 115 trees honoring Nobel laureates. His Green World Movement established 38 eco-villages featuring zero-waste communities with biogas systems and organic farming.

After surviving Cyclone Bhola, Islam dedicated 46 years to coastal afforestation. His Vertical Forest technique increased mangrove survival rates by 70% along Bay of Bengal. The UNDP-recognized 'Tree Banking' system let farmers exchange saplings for education credits.

Through mobile tree clinics, he trained 28,000 villagers in climate adaptation. His Eco-Diplomacy Initiative planted symbolic forests in 22 countries using seeds from historic sites.
