Raima Chakraborty

Indian psychologist pioneering mental health advocacy through digital storytelling

Raima Chakraborty (b.1990) is a Kolkata-based clinical psychologist and founder of MindMatters India, a digital platform that uses interactive stories to destigmatize mental health in South Asia. Her platform has reached over 3 million users through:

  • WhatsApp chatbots offering free counseling
  • YouTube channel with 500+ videos in 5 languages
Her 2019 campaign '#MyAnxietyNarrative' went viral across India, sparking national conversations about mental health in workplaces.

Raima developed the first culturally-adapted CBT framework for Indian contexts, published in Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. She works closely with Bollywood actors to create authentic portrayals of mental health issues in films. In 2021, she launched the Drishti App providing subsidized therapy sessions through India's rural postal network.

Her work was profiled in Nature Human Behaviour and recognized by Ashoka Foundation's Changemaker award. Current projects include an AI-driven mental health assessment tool validated by IIT-Kanpur researchers. Raima's TEDx talk 'Why Our Brains Need Stories' has become required viewing in global public health courses.
