Ramon Medina

Guatemalan social entrepreneur revolutionizing rural education through mobile tech

Ramon Medina (b.1987) is a Guatemalan innovator whose Kiwa Technology Foundation has transformed education access in Latin America's most remote areas. Between 2014-2019, his team developed EduCar, solar-powered mobile classrooms equipped with AI tutors and satellite internet. These vehicles reached 800+ rural communities, teaching digital literacy to over 150,000 children. Medina's 2017 documentary highlighted how indigenous students used these tools to create apps addressing local challenges like crop monitoring. His partnership with Gates Foundation expanded the program to Peru and Bolivia. The EduCar model inspired UNESCO's 2018 Global Education Initiative, and Medina's TEDx talk "Wheels of Knowledge" (2016) received 2 million views. His 2019 manifesto 《Mobile Learning Revolution》 outlines strategies for education equity in the digital age. MIT recognized his work with a $500k Solve Fellowship in 2019.
