Rashid al-Din al-Jawzi

Rashid al-Din al-Jawzi (1810–1882) was a Syrian scholar and reformer who played a pivotal role in modernizing education in the Arab world during the Ottoman era. Born in Damascus, he championed secular subjects alongside religious studies, advocating for the inclusion of mathematics, science, and philosophy in curricula. His establishment of the Al-Jawziyya School in 1835 became a model for future institutions across the region.
