Rebecca Enonchong
Cameroonian tech entrepreneur pioneering digital infrastructure across Africa.
Rebecca Enonchong (b. 1967), founder of AppsTech, has been instrumental in Africa's tech revolution. Her 1999 enterprise—now serving 50+ countries—was among the first to provide enterprise software solutions from the continent to global clients like NASA and Coca-Cola.
As chair of Afrilabs, Enonchong connected 300+ innovation hubs across Africa. Her 2013 campaign #BringBackOurInternet pressured governments to reduce data costs, increasing broadband access from 2% to 28% in francophone Africa by 2020.
Enonchong's fintech initiative I/O Spaces (2017) created blockchain-based IDs for unbanked women, enabling 1.2 million to access microloans. She co-founded VC4A, a venture capital platform that funded 600+ startups including Flutterwave. Despite political pushback in Cameroon, her 2020 Digital Caravan
trained 15,000 rural entrepreneurs in AI basics.
Named to Forbes' 50 Over 50 list (2022), Enonchong champions technological sovereignty
for Africa. Her TED talk Why Africa's Tech Future Must Be Female has spurred 30+ coding academies for girls from Lagos to Kigali.
