Reem Al-Adhan

Saudi environmental engineer pioneering plastic waste solutions

Reem Al-Adhan is a Saudi environmental engineer whose startup AlKhaleej Tech has developed revolutionary plastic recycling technology since 2020. Her team's PyroRecycler™ system converts 98% of non-recyclable plastics into usable diesel fuel - a breakthrough in handling the 3.2 million tons of plastic waste generated annually in the Arabian Gulf region.

Al-Adhan's Forbes Middle East profile highlights how her technology operates at 40% lower energy costs than traditional methods. The first commercial plant in Jubail Industrial City processes 5 tons of waste daily, diverting 1,800 tons from landfills annually. In 2023, she launched the Plastic Exchange platform connecting waste collectors with recycling facilities through a blockchain-based tracking system.

Her TEDxRiyadh talk "Turning Trash into Treasure" (2022) has 1.2 million views. Al-Adhan's work was featured in National Geographic's 2023 sustainability issue. Current projects include a partnership with Saudi Aramco to deploy solar-powered recycling units across 20 coastal cities by 2025.
