UAE's pioneering AI ethicist shaping Middle Eastern tech policies
Dr. Reem AlMansoori (28) is the youngest member of the UAE's AI Ethics Committee and founder of EthicalAI Middle East, established in 2020. She developed the region's first AI ethics framework adopted by Dubai's Smart City initiative, ensuring facial recognition systems comply with privacy laws. Her research at NYU Abu Dhabi focuses on algorithmic bias mitigation in healthcare algorithms used across GCC countries.
AlMansoori's 2023 white paper "Ethical Guidelines for Autonomous Vehicles in Arid Environments" influenced new regulations in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. She co-created the Middle East AI Ethics Network, connecting 1,500 professionals across 12 countries. Her TEDx talk 'When Algorithms Decide Our Futures' (2024) has been translated into 8 languages. Recently appointed to the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on AI, she advocates for culturally sensitive AI development in non-Western contexts.
