Bangladeshi environmental entrepreneur who pioneered sustainable agriculture practices benefiting 2 million farmers
Sultana Kamal is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur and founder of Grameen Check Post, a NGO transforming rural livelihoods through eco-friendly farming. Starting in 2005, she developed a model combining organic farming, water conservation, and women's cooperatives that now operates in 150 villages. Her 'Green Village' initiative has increased crop yields by 40% while reducing pesticide use by 80%. Kamal's work was recognized by the UN SDGs Award (2018) and featured in BBC World documentaries. She created the first Bangladeshi seed bank preserving 120 traditional crop varieties, and her 'Climate-Resilient Farming' manual has been adopted by 500+ schools. Kamal also founded the Bangladesh Women Farmers Network, which secured land rights for 15,000 women. Her TEDx talk 'Feeding a Thirsty World' explores sustainable food systems. In 2022, she launched the Climate Farmers Alliance, connecting Bangladeshi farmers with global carbon markets.
